“Queen Anne Lace” by Jan Allmon
distance spilled from the sky
onto pastures of mourning
white lace umbels caught up
in the wavewash of grief
inflorescent soft stippling
on acres of anguish where
memories leapt from these
delicate clusters of sorrow
where death gave impossible
miles to the valley of mist
between breathing and entropy
intimate yesterdays rolled
to a sudden svelte silence
From my book Inside the Smoke

The land speaks to all of her children, but many, especially in today’s world, are not able to hear the words. For me there is a belabored breath that it exhales when I visit such spots special to me, and sometimes I wonder whether she will thrive yet again.

I don’t think I’ve known of this experience to be summed up as beautifully as the last two lines of this. Thank you for that. The other reason I like reading your work is that I learn new words (umbels for today). Also thank you for your follow, likes, and support as I try to get my fledgling blog off the ground. I automatically smile when I see your name. 🙂

Such sad thief described to fit with memories too beautiful to conquer it. Death shall die truly, one day.
